Thank you for coming ♥️
The Heaven Can Wait show was amazing! Soooo happy so many of you made it out :) Y’all especially gave a lot of love to my new songs, which meant a lot to me!!! 🥹 Although I could play Electric Palms forever and WILL… the newer music feels more aligned with where I’m at right now. So I wanted to share with you, in full, the first live performance of one of my new songs, “Evaporating.”
Behind the Scenes
The night before the show, I posted this pic to my IG story (receiving a lot of OMG’s, WOWWW’s, WTF’s and 😱😱😱’s in response):
TBH, this list is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to my to-do’s on performance days. So I thought I’d peel back the curtain for y’all. Buckle up! 🤪
T-12 hours until showtime
Wake up early, quick yoga and meditation, breakfast, vocal warm-up, post on socials, double check all is set with photographer/videographer/collaborators, run through set one last time (giving some thought to banter + in-between moments), unplug all my instruments/gear from my home set-up, pack it all up, get ready (makeup, hair, outfit), walk heavy gear down 4 flights of stairs, pile it into my parents’ car (like tetris), head to the venue (visualization/breathwork), soundcheck, set up gear on stage, make sure all sounds great and work through any technical difficulties, take down gear, usually just wait a long while (engaging in lots of self-talk through the anxiety/worries that inevitably arise), make my rounds at a dinner table of family friends pre-show (try to eat a little something if my nerves allow)… until finally, it’s showtime! Deep breaths... often a 15-min scramble to get all gear back on stage and ready to go.
****All this heavy-lifting… and I’m not even a bodybuilder! 🤪****
During the show thoughts
Have fun, stay centered, savor the moment, allow for spontaneity, share the loveee!
Post-show
15-min scramble to get all my shit off the stage. Say hello to friends/fans! YAY!!!! Pack up all the gear, pile it back in the car, drive it back to my apartment, and plug it all back in. This way, I’m ready to write music and make magic the next day! Well… whilst writing follow-up emails to new folks on mailing list/those who showed up, editing and sharing pics and videos, and more!
All this to say… every single text, call, comment, hug, and smiling/tearful face in the audience means the world to me. And huge thank you to my amazing parents who willingly help me with the whole shebang… every. single. show.
Happy accidents
Couldn’t end this month’s newsletter without including a blooper reel! Since my music tends to be on the sad-girl side of things, I like to keep a light atmosphere in-between songs…
2024 is off to an amazing start!!! Lots of surprising opportunities have come my way and I am extremely grateful. Hope you’re staying warm out there and chasing after what you love ❤️
More soon,
Sofie
PS. Can we talk about JONI and TRACY two nights ago? The tears were FLOWING.
Great song!
